The story of the trip
The Red Prawn (Gambero Rosso) will be the gateway, but the journey will gradually widen its gaze to boats, crews, the catch, preservation and other communities tied to the sea.
Mazara will remain the heart of the programme.
The programme
+Day 1 · Mazara | The city and the Mediterranean
Arrival.
Port, Kasbah and first encounter with the city.
Seafood dinner.
+Day 2 · Mazara | The fishing fleet
Meeting the world of fishing.
Fishermen, crews, boats and life on board.
Hands-on experience when possible.
+Day 3 · Mazara | The Red Prawn
Getting to know the product.
Dedicated cooking class.
Lunch with what we have prepared.
+Day 4 · Mazara | There is more than the Red Prawn
Today we will widen our gaze.
Local species, seasonality, lesser-known catch and its use in the kitchen.
Visit to the Museum of the Satyr and a closer look at the relationship between sea, archaeology and fishing.
+Day 5 · Marsala | The sea meets wine
Transfer to Marsala.
Historic centre.
Historic winery and tasting.
Lunch or dinner dedicated to the meeting of seafood cuisine and local wines.
+Day 6 · Stagnone | Salt preserves the catch
Visit to the salt pans.
Salt, preservation and processing of the catch.
Depending on the season: harvesting or salt tasting.
Sunset at the Stagnone.
+Day 7 · Favignana | Another seafaring community
Ferry to Favignana.
Former Florio Establishment.
Tuna, tuna trap, rais and tonnaroti.
When possible, an experience with a fisherman or a boat trip.
Lunch dedicated to island cuisine. Return.
+Day 8 · From the fisherman to the table
Last food experience.
When possible we will build a meeting between those who know the catch and those who cook it.
The available product will become the starting point of the final lunch.
Eight days earlier we were looking for the Red Prawn. In the end we will have found much more: an entire culture of the Mediterranean.
