Coast of western Sicily
Valderice
An area to discover
From the slopes of Erice to the fishing village of Bonagia, Valderice combines countryside, wheat and bread with the life of boats and the tuna trap. The route tells of two ways of working and celebrating: the devotion of the land and that of those who lived from the sea.

The identity of the place
A story to live
The Molino Excelsior opens the story of wheat and flour in the Agro Ericino. In homes that dough also became votive bread for Saint Joseph, carved with symbolic shapes and tied to the ritual of the Tuppi Tuppi. Going down through fields and olive groves towards Bonagia, the landscape changes: the port, the boats and the tuna trap recall the seasonal work of tuna. Alongside seafood cuisine stands devotion to the Most Holy Crucifix, tied to the seafaring community. Festivals, processions and sweets follow their calendar; in every season, however, the places keep telling of the link between land and sea.
